This role is based out of our corporate office in Boston, Massachusetts. Rhythm operates in a hybrid-work model. Candidates applying must be willing and able to be in the Boston office in coordination with their department and business needs. This role may involve some travel.
The expected salary range for this position is $110,000 - $165,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, level, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and company performance. This role may be eligible for benefits and other compensation such as restricted stock units.

Opportunity Overview
Rhythm Pharmaceuticals is seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Payroll Manager to join our Finance team. In this role, you will be directly involved in overseeing and processing North America's domestic payroll operations. The ideal candidate will have experience with ADP Workforce Now and a strong understanding of payroll compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations. This position is based in Boston and follows a hybrid work model to promote collaboration and flexibility.Responsibilities and Duties
- Manage and process U.S. multi-state regular bi-weekly payrolls for 270+ employees, using ADP Workforce Now.
- Manage and process Canada's regular (semi-monthly) payroll.
- Process off-cycle equity payrolls (RSU, NQ), bonuses, and terminations.
- Ensure payroll compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.
- Register payroll tax accounts in new tax jurisdictions and maintain validation tables in ADP.
- Partner with payroll providers to support payroll configuration updates.
- Stay current on ADP payroll system updates and training to maximize the return of investment from the payroll system.
- Manage US quarterly and year-end processes.
- Oversee payroll tax filings, payments, corrections, and resolve tax issues.
- Adhere to established payroll processes, internal controls, and procedures to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Collaborating with HR, finance, and other departments to ensure seamless coordination of payroll and benefits processes with other HR and financial activities.
- Assist with 401K and Workers' Compensation Audits.
- Address employee payroll inquiries promptly and professionally, providing clear explanations regarding deductions, adjustments, and general payroll issues.
- Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies, ensuring any errors are corrected quickly and thoroughly.
- Identify opportunities to streamline and improve payroll processing and overall payroll experience for employees.
- Prepare payroll-related ad-hoc reports.
- Other activities and tasks assigned by the Payroll Director.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- At least 5 years of payroll experience, including exposure to multi-state payroll.
- ADP Workforce Now experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. payroll laws and regulations.
- Proficiency in Excel: lookups, conditional formulas (SUMIF), and PivotTables
- Attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills with both external service providers and internal stakeholders.
- Adaptable and flexible; capable of working both independently and under supervision on assigned tasks.
- Proficiency in processing and reporting equity in payroll, including RSU, ESPP, ISO, and NQ.
- Knowledge of year-end payroll activities, such as reporting and reconciliations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Ability to discretely handle private and sensitive compensation data.
